I love color- from bright pink nail polish, to a smoky purple eye, to a vibrant red lip- but there's something about a nude and beige makeup look that feels so comfortable and brings out a sort of "prettiness" in everyone. Nude colors, or neutrals as they are otherwise called, are colors that resemble different skin tones and shades that compliment your existing skin tone, enhancing your existing features to create that "no makeup" makeup look. It's an easy way to put together a look without the guess work of what color goes with what, and using neutral colors are great for a put together, on the go look for those busy moms out there. I feel you ladies- a toddler that won't sit still and the infant that screams at your feet, begging to be picked up, all while you're trying desperately to put some kind of makeup on to hide the sleepless night you thought would never end! And if you're not a mom, well, just wait, your turn will come ;) Here are my top picks for neutrals: Eyes When using neutrals on the eye, think soft earth tones and the varying shades of skin tones that we see all around us. Browns to use in the crease to create depth in the eyes and cool tone shimmers to highlight the brows and inner tear ducts to make your eyes pop and appear larger. Makeup Geek Eyeshadows in Creme Brûlée, Cocoa Bear, Beaches & Cream, and Vanilla Bean Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette Cheeks When using neutrals, coral and bronzy colors for the cheeks are great at adding color and also to sculpt the cheekbones. Lips Nude lips doesn't necessarily mean no color- think of it as your lips, but better! You can enhance your natural skin color by wearing a lip color 1 to 2 shades darker than your natural skin shade, or make a bold move with a darker earthy tone color for a more dramatic look. I love, love, LOVE nudes!! Flattering on any skin type, color, and face shape- it really is the universal go to look for fool proof, no brainer, beautiful makeup. It's also a great way to incorporate a bright color against a neutral backdrop. So when in doubt, just stay in the nude ;)

I've always been drawn to bright colors, whether it be clothes, accessories, or makeup. I love wearing a neutral eye just like any other girl, but sometimes it's fun to put some POP! in your look with a bright lipstick, eyeshadow, or eyeliner- a little something to liven up the face. With Spring in full effect, it's a great time to play with color and experiment with new looks. For those not used to color or are scared of doing it the wrong way, here are some easy ways to incorporate a pop of color next time you want to spruce up you look! Peekaboo Colored Eyeliner: I love this because it can be as subtle or as bold as you want. Instead of wearing a bright color on the entire lid, keep the eyeshadow neutral, apply a dark application of your favorite liquid or pencil liner, then add the color of your choice right on top of the liner. This can be done with an eye liner, eyeshadow or eyeshadow crayon. For extra lasting wear, layer on the same color eyeshadow on top of the liner to intensify the color and lock it in place. Bright Lipstick or Lipgloss: This is my favorite way to wear a pop of color. If you've visited my site from the beginning, you know my love for lipsticks! Wearing a very natural, neutral eye with minimal eyeliner and lots of mascara is the perfect companion for a bright pop of color on the lips. It's a very easy look that takes no time at all and brings a freshness to the face. Pop of Color on Bottom Eyelid: An alternative to the peekaboo eyeliner is a pop of color on the lower lash line using either eyeshadow or eyeliner. This method will produce a softer look when using eyeshadow, creating a colorful smokey effect. You can pair this with a color coordinating lip color or keep the lip nude to keep the focus on the eyes. So after deciding you want to try wearing color, you might still be wondering what colors are complimentary to each other and to your skin tone. Here's where the famous color wheel comes in: Here's how it works: each color on the wheel corresponds to the color right across from it. For example, purple and yellow are complimentary colors. I've found that the two colors on either side of each color can also be paired with its complimentary color. Pink and dark blue are on either side of purple, so yellow can also be paired with these two colors as well. My favor combos are: Look out for a future color POP! video on my Youtube channel! And you know it's going to involve bright lipstick!! What about you- are you daring enough to try this trend or will you leave the color wearing to the brave ones? Remember -makeup is supposed be fun and creative, give it a try!
