Black 0.27 oz
$23.00
Geez, I feel like I should put up a disclaimer for this post! I got my hands on one of the newest mascaras by Too Faced thanks to my lovely friend Jennifer that I'ver been wanting to try out because of all the buzz surrounding it. It's one of those products that you either love it or hate it, but what got my attention was it's name. I'm talking about the Too Faced, um, (insert blushing face here!) Better Than Sex Mascara. Okay I said it, now moving on! Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara Black 0.27 oz $23.00 Claiming to provide 1,944% more volume with only 2 coats, this mascara has really set its standards high and hails itself as an unbelievable mascara. It has a carbon black formula which provides dark, rich pigment and a large fiber brush that gives all around application. I tried to get some good before and after shots but just couldn't get decent pictures from my camera! But trust me, it wasn't that breathtaking of a difference! First off, let me say that yes, it did give great black pigmentation and give instant volume, though the 1,944% claim of bigger lashes is pretty far fetched! However, you must take your time with this mascara because it can clump up if you don't wait between coats to let the product set a bit. What I don't like about it is that it's not available in a waterproof form, which is a must for me and my sensitive eyes, but this is a personal preference. Can you find an equivalent at the drugstore for a fraction of the cost? Absolutely!! It's not a bad mascara, but it's not amazing, and spending $23 just seems a little outrageous to me. But I know that Too Faced is a brand that appeals to many and the risqué name may be alluring for some, just not for me. But try it out for yourself and see if it works for you! It does have pretty packaging though, and I'm a sucker for pretty makeup ;)

I often get asked questions regarding how I got interested in makeup, when I started wearing makeup, products I like and recommend, and so on, and since I've been learning so much lately through writing this blog and being exposed to so many products and people in the makeup industry, I decided to answer some of these questions for all of you! So here we go! How old were you when you started wearing makeup? Well, this question has a two fold answer. I was 14 when I started wearing my friends makeup (which I don't recommend- germs can come in different forms, even from your BFF, just saying!) while I was at school and would wash my face before my mom got home. I know, what a rebel, right?! But it wasn't until I was 15 that my mom allowed me to wear makeup, which consisted of face powder, mascara and lipstick. I've made a lot of mistakes through the years with application and color choices, but that's a whole other story that could be a blog post on it's own!! How did you get into makeup? Having a mom who was always into makeup and keeping herself put together in both makeup and dress, I looked up to my mom and loved watching her put on her lipstick. I definitely credit my mother's influence in my love for lipsticks and the classic red lips and cat eye look! As an adult in my 20's, I would go to the MAC counters and loved watching the makeup artists apply makeup on others. I asked if I could just watch to take note of their techniques and product choices and they were more than happy to let me stick around ( although I don't know if it's the same today as it was 10 years ago, so if you want to do something like that, just ask nicely) I then found tutorials and product reviews on youtube and loved learning from celebrity makeup artists and other girls just like me who loved makeup and wanted to show others how to apply it and what products they would recommend. I would practice makeup application and play around with different colors and techniques to hone in on my love for makeup and the hidden talent that I didn't know I had. If you love something, just keep doing it and practice your skills, that's the only way you'll get beer and expand your knowledge! If you could only wear 5 products on your face what would they be? I threw this one in because I like to challenge myself when I'm pressed for time or when I want to narrow down my must have products in case of an emergency or when doing some light travel. Choosing 5 is really hard because I use around 10-12 products each time I do my makeup! But if I had to narrow it down, I would have to say my Dipbrow Eyebrow Pomade from Anastasia of Beverly Hills, my Maybelline Rewind concealer, my NYX Stay Matte Not Flat Powder Foundation, the Maybelline Colossal waterproof mascara, and a moisturizing lip tint balm. Gotta have my eyebrows on, so the pomade is a must! The concealer is creamy enough to sheer out on the face to even out skin tone and use more heavily on areas that need more coverage; the powder foundation would add additional coverage and set the concealer in place; the mascara would open up the eyes, and the lip tint balm would prevent chapped lips while giving a hint of color to the lips. Geez, that was hard! What is you favorite thing about makeup? The fact that I can find a product that I can apply on my face that can cover up any blemishes or imperfections and make me look more fresh and awake is a sure winner for me! We all need a pick me up once in a while when our skin is acting up or when that time of the month sneaks upon us and brings along some unfriendly pimples with it! I love how makeup can bring out your creativity- I can't paint or draw if my life depend on it, but when I use my brushes to apply my makeup, it's as if my face is the canvas and I'm creating a new painting every day. What does makeup mean to you? In a way, it relaxes me to put makeup on when it's been one of those days when things don't go as planned and the kiddos are just going from one disaster to another. Makeup is not necessarily a "means to an end"- I can happily go along with my day without any makeup on, and even, dare I say, go out in public bare faced! :) Although to be honest, it took me awhile to be comfortable in my own skin, but it's important to know that no amount of makeup will mask an ugly heart or cover up the insecurities I know we all feel from time to time. I try to have a heart full of joy, and makeup is a way for me to have fun and outwardly express the joy in my heart, knowing that I'm not using makeup to cover my face, but to enhance what's already there. There's nothing wrong with wearing lots of makeup or not wearing any at all, but what is wrong is to bash one person for one or the other. Don't think that someone who loves a full face of makeup is conceited or is trying to cover their face behind a mask of makeup, or think that the girl who doesn't wear any makeup would be better off if she did. Beauty is found in many forms :) What advice would you give someone who is just starting to use makeup? I'd definitely say, start slowly, then build up, especially to the younger teen girls. Don't cover up your face with so many unnecessary products unless you're hiding a blemish or scarring. Stick to the natural shape of your features- don't try to manipulate your features in a way they weren't supposed to go. Don't think that only high end makeup is good- drugstore makeup is often as good or even better, you just have to try out products and see what works for you (or just keep reading my blog for advice and product reviews to learn more!) What is the most common makeup "no-no"? Well this is a loaded question! I can think of many off the top of my head (which I admit I was guilty of in my teens years when I was beginning to experiment with makeup), but I'll narrow it down to two. The first is unblended eyeshadow. Kandee Johnson, a very well known beauty guru in the youtube community (who you should check out by the way!) put up this picture that someone made using her daughters picture. It's literally the face I makeup when I see someone who doesn't blend their eyeshadow: Ladies, please, I'm all about wearing dramatic eyeshadow and even wear up to 4 shadows at once, but do yourself a favor and take the extra step to blend them together!! It just ain't cute, plain and simple. To see some makeup tutorials where I demonstrate how important blending is, check out my youtube channel Roxanna Harris (Tales of a Beauty Maven) The second common mistake is not correctly color matching your foundation. I can understand how it can be frustrating when you hear words like "undertone" and "pink, yellow, or neutral" which can leave you wondering if you should have brought a dictionary with you to the store! Check out my post on finding the right shade for you: Never Wear the Wrong Foundation Color Again! However there is no reason why ladies should walk around looking like an oompa loompa with too dark and too orangey of a foundation thinking they're looking tanned with the "J Lo glow" because trust me, that's not what it looks like! Stick to your color then add warmth with a bronzer (lightly!!) to achieve a more natural glow to the face. I'm not pointing fingers or making fun, but just do yourself a favor and don't fall into these makeup no-no's-think of it as my friendly makeup public service announcement ;) High end or drugstore? This question has sadly brought many to be victims to what I like call the "brand wars". Some may only feel that more expensive makeup is the best because if it costs more, it should be better, right? Well, not necessarily. First off, let me start by saying that the brand of makeup you wear won't define you. Many brands have their loyal "cult" followers, and for good reasons too. There are high end brands that make exceptional products, however the makeup world is so much bigger than the makeup you see at the department store. I am a self proclaimed "drugstore diva"- it's the makeup I started out with as a teenager and have loved it ever since! Granted, I never had the money to try more expensive makeup- so while my friends were getting their first black MAC powder compact, I was still using my beloved cover girl compact. But for a couple of years now I have been able to try out many high end brands and see the quality and the prestige that are given to them, but also see how brand labeling can be misleading. Some makeup products are pretty basic in its ingredient list and use of application, such as eyeshadow or concealer. However slap on a designer label and the product is marked up 500% in its retail value. Compare that to a product with the same ingredients, packaging, and overall effect on the skin but at a lower price at the drugstore, and you see that many mainstream brand products are just as good if not better than their high end counterparts. My appeal to drugstore products and wanting to share my finds and application tips by using these products is to help the ordinary woman who wants to bring a little glam into their everyday routine without breaking the bank. Check out my essentials and bargain beauty pages for more info. Hope this post was insightful and fun to read! I enjoy sharing my makeup story and giving advice to others. Do you have any questions you'd like answered? Let me know in the comments section!!
I love color- from bright pink nail polish, to a smoky purple eye, to a vibrant red lip- but there's something about a nude and beige makeup look that feels so comfortable and brings out a sort of "prettiness" in everyone. Nude colors, or neutrals as they are otherwise called, are colors that resemble different skin tones and shades that compliment your existing skin tone, enhancing your existing features to create that "no makeup" makeup look. It's an easy way to put together a look without the guess work of what color goes with what, and using neutral colors are great for a put together, on the go look for those busy moms out there. I feel you ladies- a toddler that won't sit still and the infant that screams at your feet, begging to be picked up, all while you're trying desperately to put some kind of makeup on to hide the sleepless night you thought would never end! And if you're not a mom, well, just wait, your turn will come ;) Here are my top picks for neutrals: Eyes When using neutrals on the eye, think soft earth tones and the varying shades of skin tones that we see all around us. Browns to use in the crease to create depth in the eyes and cool tone shimmers to highlight the brows and inner tear ducts to make your eyes pop and appear larger. Makeup Geek Eyeshadows in Creme Brûlée, Cocoa Bear, Beaches & Cream, and Vanilla Bean Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette Cheeks When using neutrals, coral and bronzy colors for the cheeks are great at adding color and also to sculpt the cheekbones. Lips Nude lips doesn't necessarily mean no color- think of it as your lips, but better! You can enhance your natural skin color by wearing a lip color 1 to 2 shades darker than your natural skin shade, or make a bold move with a darker earthy tone color for a more dramatic look. I love, love, LOVE nudes!! Flattering on any skin type, color, and face shape- it really is the universal go to look for fool proof, no brainer, beautiful makeup. It's also a great way to incorporate a bright color against a neutral backdrop. So when in doubt, just stay in the nude ;)
It's Friday, and you know what that means... Today is when I feature a product I am currently reviewing or a product that I am in love with, and this week we're looking at mascara. Specifically, the Mary Kay Lash Love Mascara: This product retails for $15 and comes in two colors- I love Black and I love Brown, and can be purchased on the Mary Kay website. Here's a link to view the product, which is connected to a very loved and very trustworthy consultant whom I purchase all my products from- Mary Kay Lash Love. I got to try out this product from a sample I received from a previous order. I was a bit skeptical at first because I'm not one to use very thin, plastic lash comb mascaras- I like to use lash wands that are thick and dense with natural fibers. But being the makeup lover and conosseiur that I am, I said what the heck, let's try this baby out! And boy was I surprised! Not only was it lengthening and super dark ( I got mine in black) but it had just the right thickness in formula to coat your lashes without creating clumps and giving you separation between the lashes. Oh, and it's waterproof and smudge proof, which is important to me because my sensitive eyes can tear up with the slightest gust of wind! Here's a comparison of one eye without any mascara and the other with one coat of Mary Kay Lash Love Mascara: As you can tell, I lack severely in the eyelash department, but with just one coat, voila! Instant lashes! The formula is super dark and creates a flare all around the lash line, opening up the eye at the corners. This mascara is also great to use when using false lashes because it does a great job at binding your natural lashes with the falsies without the added clumpiness that can often occur. Not only is this mascara great on it's own, but I've found it to be a mascara "booster" when used on top of other mascaras, giving extra length and separation when paired with another volumizing mascara formula. My favorite mascaras to pair with the Mary Kay Lash Love are L'oreal Voluminous Carbon Black and Maybelline Colossal Mascara.
This product is definitely thumbs up and what's great about Mary Kay is their satisfaction guarantee- try out their products and if you're not completely satisfied, you can return it for a full refund. But I think this is one product you won't be returning anytime soon! Here's to dark, full, and lovely lashes!! Some things are just worth splurging on- a new dress, a nice manicure, a hot fudge sundae with sprinkles on top (hey, Im pregnant, so food is kinda always on my mind!). My recent makeup splurge has created a big buzz in my makeup routine- it's like the makeup gods parted the heavens and I heard angels sing... But seriously speaking, this product has stirred up quite a commotion since its debut a couple of months ago and I finally see why- it's amazing! Here it is in all it's glory: Anastasia Contour Kit- $40 Created by the woman hailed as the "queen of eyebrows" for her amazing eyebrow products that are celebrated by celebrities and makeup artists around the world, this compact palette provides the most universal shades to contour and highlight the face, creating flawless, dimensional faces each and every time. The top 3 powders are for highlighting, with one containing shimmer for the lovely "glow from within" look; and the bottom 3 powders are for all over bronzing and contouring, making anyone look like they have the cheekbones of a goddess!. Here are some swatches: From left to right: Vanilla, Banana, Sand, Java, Fawn and Havanna) The colors are great for both pink and yellow undertones, which comes in handy to have in one kit for those makeup artists who want an all in one product that is portable from one job to the next. I recommend using Vanilla for pink undertones and Banana for those with more yellow to olive skin tones to highlight under the eyes and the high points of the face. The shimmer highlight is subtle enough to give a glow without overpowering the face with too much shimmer and shine. The powders are silky and finely milled with a lot of color payoff, which is great because you don't need much for the color to show up on the face, so use a light hand with these powders- a little goes a very long way! This kit is bold enough to give a very dramatic contoured look, but is also user friendly for the everyday woman who just wants to give that extra "oomph" to her face. Here's how I wear it on an everyday basis:
Here's a chart explaining where contour and highlight is placed on the face: This contour kit has become a staple in my everyday makeup and I believe it will do the same for you. This kit definitely gives professional quality at a decent price compared to what other high end contour kits costs. Definitely worth the investment due to its high pigmentation and all day staying power. And the exciting part is, starting July 24th, refill pans will be available for the kits, as well as over 20 new colors to choose from to create your own custom palette! Check out anastasia.net for more details.
Friday product spotlight is back! And today's lucky product is... the Coastal Scents Revealed 2 Palette! This 20 color eyeshadow palette debuted earlier this year and I finally got my hands on it after much purchase debate. It's predecessor, the original Revealed Palette, came out as the affordable alternative to the Urban Decay Naked Palettes, most similar to the first Naked Palette with its gold and warm neutral undertones. When Urban Decay unveiled their beautiful Naked 3, with its rose gold undertone eyeshadows, I was kinda settled on cutting off my right arm and paying the $52 price tag. But after I saw how close in shade range the Revealed 2 palette was to the Naked 3, the $30 price difference spoke loudly and I placed my Coastal Scents order on Amazon (Naked 3-$52, Revealed 2-$19.95). Here are some swatches: Top Row Bottom Row The color payoff is great and the range in rose gold shades are distinctive enough to create many different looks. I was especially surprised on how pigmented the black shadow was because that is one color which can fade throughout the course of the day, but surprisingly it stayed true to color. I did see a difference in color payoff and longevity when using an eye primer, but then again I always advise to use an eye primer to get the most out of your eyeshadows. Some shadows were a bit more powdery than I would have liked, but that happens in the original Naked palettes too, so it all depends on how the shadow was formulated. I love that there are 3 matte shadows that are great as a transition color to blend your shadows in the crease. All in all, this palette did not disappoint and is a definite recommendation to anyone who wants the shade range of the Urban Decay Naked palettes without their hefty price tag!
Before we go any further- I'm baaack! Life, as always, brings its little moments of interruption and with an infant, a four year old, and being 5 months pregnant, you can only imagine the excitement at my house! But after a much needed break and with a newfound sense of inspiration, and a whole lot of new products I've been trying and can't wait to review, new blog posts will be coming your way! In this post, I wanted to share my most often used combos of high end and drugstore makeup that are staples in my everyday makeup routine. From lip products to concealer, these products provide long lasting results with flawless application. NYX Lipliners and MAC Lipsticks: To start, let me say that these two products act and look like they were made by the same company. If you have followed me for any extended length of time and have checked out my essentials page, then you know both of these items are in my all-time favorite products list. MAC is famous for their extensive color palette of lipsticks and NYX is hailed as the best affordable makeup brand that feels like its expensive counterparts. NYX also has an array of color options, which makes pairing the two a lip dream combo! Here are some of my favorite combinations: NYX Hot Red and MAC Russian Red NYX Pale Pink and MAC Blankety NYX Deep Purple and MAC Rebel NYX Dolly Pink and MAC Candy Yum Yum MAC Full Coverage Foundation and Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer: This combo has truly become my new favorite to wear when I want a flawless, full coverage makeup application, especially in the udereye area in covering redness and dark circles. I recently worked as the makeup artist in a wedding and I used this combo on the bridesmaids and many commented on how awake and bright their eyes appeared after I used these products on them. The foundation can become heavy on the face, but when applied with a damp beauty blender, it can be sheered out to provide high coverage and avoiding the dreaded "cake face". The Maybelline concealer is seriously a wonder product- easy to use, blends beautifully, and provides great coverage. My preferred method of use is to apply a shade in the MAC foundation to counteract the problem area, whether it be redness, darkness or uneven skin tone, then apply a color that is 1-2 shades lighter than your skin to act as a highlight under the eye. Set with translucent powder and you've got long lasting coverage all day! Lancome Aquatique Waterproof Eye Base in Nude and any drugstore eyeshadow: Now this product here is one of those that do live up to its prestigious brand name. When you hear Lancome you think high end, fancy, and expensive of course! I got my hands on this product on a trip to Costco (check out this blog post I dedicated to its discovery) and paid half of its retail price! The item is available at Sephora for $26, but at Costco I scored it at only $12.99, woohoo!! This base is creamy, sets as a cream to powder finish, and will brighten and add wear length to even the most stubborn drugstore eyeshadows that may not always have the best color payoff on their own. The only downside is that it only comes in one shade, Nude, so those with deeper skin tones may not benefit from using it. This item was truly like find finding a needle in haystack, but I would still be willing to pay the $26 for it. A little goes a long way with this product, so you'll definitely be getting your money's worth! Do you have any of these items in your makeup collection that you might try pairing up? Or do you have some tried and true favorites of your own? Let me know and share the wealth! I hope you come back for more product spotlights and reviews, as well as a special behind the scenes wedding makeup post I'm working on featuring a new youtube video, so stay tuned!
Repeat after me " Washing my face everyday is one of the most important things I can do for my skin". Now say it again- and again, and again! I say this because so many of us (myself included, until I came to my senses in my 20's) do not take care of our face like we should and we wonder why the breakouts still happen, why our pores are blocked, and why we look like we have pepper sprinkled all over our noses! (which are blocked pores full of dead skin and dirty oils- YUCK!) Whether you're an avid makeup wearer or an au-natural girl, washing our faces when we wake up and before bed is one of the secrets to great skin. But I'm not just talking about soap and water- no, we have to get to the bottom of it all, and by bottom, I mean all the gunk that piles up beneath the top surface of our skin, hiding in the crevices of our pores and seeping through to the second layer of our skin. I'm painting a pretty picture, aren't I? Here are the 5 things you probably aren;t doing and should be doing to take better of your skin now so you'll slow down the hands of time and have your youthful glow for years to come! You're using the wrong facial cleanser: All skin is not created equal, so neither are facial cleansers. An effective face washing routine consists of the appropriate cleanser to tackle the specific skin type and issues that want to be resolved. For those with oily skin, stay away from cleansers that are for dry skin because the extra moisture control can trigger your oil production. For those with acne prone skin, look for cleaners that have salycic acid, an ingredient used to kill the bacteria associated with acne and breakouts. Those with dry skin will want creamy, high moisture cleaners, such as facial bars, to help retain moisture while stripping away oil and dirt. *Quick Tip: you don't need to spend big bucks on your facial cleanser. Choose something simple that meets your skin type needs and save your money for more important products, like face treatments and serums. You're not exfoliating: Washing the face is not enough to really get to the underlying dirt, oil, and bacteria that may still be lingering underneath your skin. An exfoliator is made to remove the top layer of dead skin cells and expose the healthier "new" skin underneath, allowing your face to breathe and giving you that "glow" that we see on healthy skin. Many companies make exfoliating cleansers that are made with gritty ingredients, such as walnut shell, that help with exfoliation. Or you can choose to buy a face exfoliator to use in conjunction with your facial cleanser. A little more expensive, but these little machines pack a powerful punch! You're not using the right face creams/moisturizers: For a face cream to be most effective, apply when face is freshly washed and skin is still slightly damp. Do not rub the face- pat away moisture with a soft towel to prevent tugging the skin and irritating the face. Products are easily absorbed on damp skin, allowing the key ingredients to penetrate the top layer of the skin. Just as with facial cleanser, choosing the correct cream for your specific skin type is crucial. Use face treatments, masks, and patches to address more crucial problem areas: Soap, toners, and creams only go so far, so to tackle problem areas try products for specific needs. Pore strips are great for those who get black heads around the nose area. Clay masks are great at pulling out toxins in our skin and leaving our face with a new "layer" of skin that seems to glow from within. Find your specific skin type, problems areas you want to address, and add them to your face washing beauty regimen. These are not to be done a daily basis- like all things, too much of a good thing can be bad for you, so too many face treatment can strip your skin of natural oils and moisture, which will just cause your skin to grow worse. Once a week a mask is recommended, and 2 times a week using pore strips should be enough. I don't know about you, but after writing this post, i feel like washing my face one more time! Take care of your skin- it's the only one you got! Plus, a clean face equals a better makeup application :)
Ahh, wedding season is upon us. The smell of flowers in the air, wedding dresses everywhere... and frantic brides trying to do all they can to make sure their wedding day goes perfect! And one of the most important things besides the dress is the makeup. Between the endless pictures taken by the photographer and that crazy Aunt that always wants to get a close up ( we all have one of those!) your face will be the center of attention! So here's my take on long wearing, waterproof makeup for your wedding day that will last all day long, tears and all! Face: Foundation and Concealer Depending on your skin needs, foundation can range from light to medium coverage to " I want to look airbrushed so pack it on" coverage. It's important to remember that extra coverage is favorable because you can easily get washed out in your pictures, and the HD technology in cameras these days can pick up on every nook and cranny on your face, so perfect skin is what to aim for. My motto for wedding makeup is- fake it til you make it! Lots of concealer and high coverage foundation is ideal to make sure you look your best in your pictures. Here are my top 3 foundation picks: Here are my top 3 picks for concealer: Setting Powder After all that work in creating the perfect canvas with concealer and foundation, you need to lock it in with a great setting powder. Three key components to the perfect setting powder is texture, color, and coverage. You want a powder that is finely milled in order for it to melt into the skin instead of laying on top of the foundation. If the powder is too gritty in texture, it can appear blotchy on the skin and give you the dread "cake face". Here's some I would recommend: Setting Spray If you're looking for one more product to provide long wearing, long lasting makeup on your special day, then consider using a setting spray. These sprays are made to lock in your makeup with ingredients that create a barrier against moisture, sweat, tears- you name it, it has your back! These setting sprays have been tried and tested and come out on top as some of the best: Mascara Mascara is one of, if not THE, fundamental makeup products that needs to be waterproof, smudge proof, sweat proof, everything proof! Here's what I would recommend: Eyes Creating the perfect canvas on your face not only involves the skin, but also the eyes, which will be the focal point in all those smiling pictures you'll be taking All, Day, Long! A soft, smokey eye is the go to look for bridal, which is dramatic enough to make the eyes stand out but will not overpower your face. Here's some neutral palettes that work great for bridal looks: Are you planning your perfect wedding makeup? Or maybe you're one of those who likes to plan ahead and have been planning your wedding say, since you were 5 years old?! I hope this list of my go-to long lasting and water proof products help you create that perfect makeup look on your special day!
I love purple- it's a color that can be fun and flirty but also mysterious and sexy. But it's the one color that many women won't touch with a 10 foot pole! When you hear people you either think of a bright crayola crayon, or Barney. And neither seems appealing or flattering to wear! If you've read yesterdays post on orange and coral makeup, purple falls in the same category- it has a broad range of shades and tones that when worn appropriately can make a big statement. So don't be afraid to experiment with color! Here are some favorites for eyes, lips, and face: Lips
Blush
Eyes
Quick side note: be careful when working with colors like purple. Too much on the eyes or around the eyes can make you look like a crazed animal or as if you got into a fight and got punched in the eye! Remember to balance the face- if you want color on the eyes, then go light on the lips, and vice versa. An easy way to stay neutral with your makeup and add a pop of purple is to keep the eyes simple and wear a bright gloss or lipstick. its the easiest way to look put together with no work at all.
Okay, sorry for the corny joke title, but I had to ;) Orange is the color to wear as summer draws near, and it's one of those colors that has a wide range of shades and tones that is flattering on every skin color ! Orange lips remind me of those orangesicle pops that I would buy from the ice cream man and eat on the sidewalk with my friends, and coral shimmer eyes resemble the beautiful summer sunsets. Orange and coral can be both fun and romantic colors, and who doesn't love that?! So here are some of my favorite orange and coral toned makeup products for the summer: Blush
Lipstick
Lipgloss/ Lip Balm
Eyeshadow
I just love, love, LOVE wearing orange and corals! So flattering on every skin color because of its vast selection of shades and tones. Perfect color to compliment your summer glow!
It's Friday, y'all! And that means another product spotlight on one of my favorite products of all time. This weeks honorary mention goes to my ever faithful and oh so loved NYX Stay Matte Not Flat Powder Foundation. This powder is so versatile and great on all skin types. An added bonus is that it's Talc free, which is a common ingredient in face powders that can be brutal on dry skin, so even my super dry girls out there who suffer from dehydrated skin like me can wear it! This powder foundation works to minimize shine and take away the "wet" look that some foundations can leave, but does not leave you looking flat like some other matte powders. It also works great on its own without liquid foundation-just remember to use a primer to make your look last extra long! This powder leaves a sort of sheen on the skin that gives life to your skin, allowing your makeup to look natural but with added coverage. It's kinda hard to explain but take my word for it-it's amazing! NYX offers an array of 16 colors - from the lightest in Ivory to the deepest shades in Deep Dark, with great choices of both cool and warm undertones (to find out your skin undertone, check out my post Never Wear the Wrong Foundation Color Again!) The compact includes a sponge pad for application, which I love to use for quick touch ups throughout the day. But I really like to apply it with my E.l.f Powder Brush: All in all, I absolutely recommend this powder foundation to everyone, especially as a great alternative to the popular high end MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation. Its a third of the price, does not dry out the skin, and leaves a beautiful sheen on the skin. What more is there to love?! Hope you try out and see for yourself and let me know what you think!
I love pink- hot pink, baby pink, cotton candy pink, you name the shade, I'm all over it! I love wearing different shades of pink all year long, but I look forward to spring and summer where bright pinks are so popular and look great with that newly acquired tan! Here are some of my favorite pink makeup products I love to wear which compliment any skin color: Lip Gloss NYX Butter Glosses: If you've read my post about switching over to the "gloss side" (Welcome To The Gloss Side) then you know how in love I fell over these glosses! They smell yummy, have great color pay off, and not sticky! Here are my favorite pink shades:
Lipstick Matte, satin, glossy- I love them all! Don't be afraid to experiment with bold colors! Check out my post Pop of Color for tips on how to wear a bold lip.
Blush A soft pink color on the cheeks goes great with that warm weather tan, and can compliment every skin tone.
I just love all the pink in this post! It's a color all girls can relate to-especially makeup lovers like us! What are some of your favorite pink products to wear for Spring and Summer?
With summer approaching, you need to be makeup ready for the heat that comes with it! Summer is the time when our makeup gets lighter and fresher, but that doesn't mean that we have to throw all our favorite goodies out the window! Here's a list of some of my top summer essentials that can hold up under heat, sweat, and long days at the beach! Face: To keep your look light, opt for a sheer foundation or a tinted moisturizer. Or follow the craze of the BB creams and choose something similar. What you want is a skin like feel and coverage that isn't too heavy because summer is all about getting that nice tan and showing off your glow! Plus, on those hot days when sweat is inevitable, you don't have to worry about your foundation streaking or running down your face from the heat. Here are some of my favorites to wear: Blush: To keep the face looking natural, stick to the color your cheeks would turn after spending some time in the sun. Pinks and corals are very popular for spring and summer and compliment every skin tone. Cream blushes are great to use to achieve that summer "glow". I would recommend applying the blush with a stippling brush to control the amount of product and diffuse the cream on the cheek to keep it looking as natural as possible. Here are some examples: Bronzer: Bronzing the face is great during the time you're working on getting your own "glow" in the sun. It's also great at contouring the face to create defined cheekbones and a slimming jawline. All in all, bronzer is one of the top products for summer. Who doesn't want to look and feel like a bronzed goddess?! Here are my two favorites: Eyes: Waterproof mascara is your best friend during the summer if you want to avoid the dreaded raccoon eyes from smeared mascara. But remember to keep the application light and skip the falsies for the summer! Here are my tried and true, stay put faves: For eyeshadow, stick with neutral skin tone shades or pink and coral shimmer colors. These work great with bronzed skin and make your eyes look more open and awake. If you want to wear eyeliner, I would recommend using dark brown eyeshadow and applying it with an angled brush to keep the eye looking soft while still getting a defined line on the eyelid. Lips: Lipgloss and tinted lip balms are great for warm weather because reapplying them is easy and doesn't require a mirror to do. Lipstick needs a more precise application, requiring a mirror and a steady hand, which is not always ideal while at the beach or at a pool party. You can even double your cream blush as a lip stain to minimize product use as well! Sweat and Oil Control: To avoid looking like a hot, sweaty mess, carry some blotting sheets for eliminating excess shine on the face due to oil or sweat. Blotting sheets are great because they don't disturb your makeup and make touch ups easy. Here are the ones I always carry in my makeup bag: NYX Blotting Sheets From Day to Night Long summer days may also lend to long summer nights, so you want your makeup to last and be able to transition from day to night. Here are some tips for a smooth transition:
May your summer be filled with great makeup days with these simple tips on creating a fresh, glowing face during the summer heat!
I love makeup brushes as much as I love makeup itself! And by looking at my growing collection, I can say I have found some tried and true, everyday use, affordable and accessible brushes that can fit anyone's makeup level and most importantly, budget! Here are the essential brushes that can create a complete brush set, all for $20!! E.l.f Studio Powder Brush ($3) One of my all time favorite brushes! Great at blending in powders and liquid products. Stiff enough to give great product coverage but still gives you an airbrush look. E.l.f Studio Stippling Brush ($3) Great for all over blending on the face, as well as liquid products such a foundation and cream blush. I love using stippling brushes to apply blush because they give you a soft look that you can control as you build up the product you're applying. A brush at a great price with multiple uses is a great tool to have! Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge ($5.99) Want that professional, airbrush look? Using a beauty sponge is the secret behind that look. The texture and application process of this sponges creates an even application of foundation on the skin which creates a smooth and beautiful canvas for the rest of your makeup. Submerge the sponge and completely soak it in water, squeeze the excess, and apply your foundation in a bouncing motion on the skin. This sponge is great to sheer out your makeup when you've applied too much foundation, powder or blush. To clean, just wash with mild dishwashing soap or baby shampoo. With average use, this sponge should last about 3-6 months. Crown Brush C413 Brow Duo ($3.28) Brows are so important in your everyday makeup routine, so of course a brow related brush has to be included in this list! Crown Brush is great at making dual ended brushes which are a.) so convenient and b.) are very good quality. The spoolie on one end is to keep your brows groomed and in place. The stiff angled brush on the other end is to fill in the brows with either powder or gel products. However, if you're not one who fills in their brows, you can also use the stiff angled brush to apply gel eyeliner. E.l.f Essential Eye Shadow Brush ($3) A must have for any brush set is an all over eyeshadow brush. This is the brush to use when applying one shade all over the lid and when packing on color to create an intense eye look. E.l.f Essential Blending Eye Brush ($3) Great for blending in a crease color when adding depth to the eyes, a blending brush is THE must have eye brush that should be in everyones brush set! Using a blending brush softens your eyeshadows, creating a seamless look, melting each color together to guarantee a perfect shadow blend. Okay, so I kinda cheated and went over the $20 by about $2 but it was worth it! I think this is a great starter kit for anyone who wants to get their hands on great brushes but want to do it on a budget. Remember- its not what the tool cost, but the quality and application process you put behind it. Hope you try some of these out for yourself and begin to build your own brush collection!
Ever since I shared my most unconventional beauty product, the Monistat Chafing Powder Gel as a face primer (check out my essential page for more info) I have been asked about many others that have been talked about or that I have tried. So I've compiled a list of products that you'd be surprised to hear have actual beauty benefits. Apple Cider Vinegar: This is one of natures "super food" that has so many benefits for the skin. It can be used as a face toner to reduce inflammation. Use a 2 to 1 ratio with water to create your own bottle of toner at home. Apple cider vinegar contains antibacterial substances that helps with break outs and clogged pores. Preparation H for puffy under eyes: I know what you're thinking- but let me explain. This may be one of the most used, top secret products used by celebrity makeup artists everywhere. Why does it work? The hydrocortisone in the ointment is to reduce puffiness and redness. Although the tube clearly states not to get it in the eyes, be cautious when trying this out. But hey, if it's good enough for super models and actresses, why not give it a try? Diaper cream for zits: Rashes and breakouts have two things in common- bacterial build up or infection of the skin. Diaper cream is used when both of these symptoms occur, so why not on the face to treat breakouts? Diaper creams contain anti fungal ingredients to treat bacteria, which is the cause for breakouts. It's probably much more affordable than acne treatments and is great for spot control when you see one of those wretched little stinkers creeping to the surface! Spray hairspray on a toothbrush to tame brows: Run out of your favorite brow gel or just need to tame your "overdue for some grooming" brows? Take an old toothbrush (clean, of course!) spray it with some hairspray, then brush onto your brows. This also works great for smoothing down flyways around your hairline. Are you willing to try any of these out? I have and was left pleasantly surprised! Do you have any to add? I'd love to know!
Whether at home or on the go, a well educated makeup maven knows that disaster can lurk around every corner. Step outside into a gust of wind? Bam! Something flies into your eyes and now your eyeliner is smudged! Day turned out to be much hotter than expected and now you're looking like a shiny grease ball? Where's a blotting sheet when you need one?!Having a well planned out and fully stocked beauty emergency kit can be your rescue next time you're in a beauty distress. Here are some emergency essentials to have in your makeup bag or in to keep in your car. I've included links to products I use and would recommend. Nail Rescue- Nail file and nail clippers: I hate when my nail somehow breaks or has a snag on one side and it keeps scratching me or getting caught on my clothing. One easy use from these items will solve that problem in a snap! Hand and Body Lotion: This one is pretty self explanatory. Nobody likes the feeling of dry skin. The winter months can leave your hands dry, and wearing sandals in the summer can leave our heels cracked and just not cute! Get a little skin refreshment with your favorite hand or body lotion on the go! Oil Blotting Sheets: These are a lifesaver for anyone with oily skin. Small enough to throw in your purse, these will instantly help oil control and mattify the skin. Not only for oil control, I use them when the weather is hot and sweat begins to gather on the hot spots of the face (forehead, upper lip, etc). Sunscreen: Living in California, the weather never seems to make up its mind. One minute its sunny, then cloudy , then sunny again. To be prepared and protect you skin from the harmful rays, a bottle of sunscreen, both for body and face, is great to have anytime, anywhere. And because it has a long shelf life, you don't constantly need to replace it with a new one. Chapstick: I'm the kind of person who constantly needs to put on some kind of chapstick or lip balm, so I tend to have one in my car and every room of the house! This a staple in everyone's car, whether male or female, but it's always handy to have an extra one. I would recommend having one with SPF during the summer for further protection from the sun. Tissue: Runny nose, sweat on the forehead, watery eyes- need I say more? Packs of tissue are essential no matter who you are, or where you are- they always come in handy! Sanitizing Gel or Wipes: Need to wash your hands but don't want to stop at a restaurant or gas station? Having sanitizing products can be a lifesaver when you need clean hands stat! You don't want to stick your dirty finger in your eye when you feel like something is having a dance party in there! Plus, if you are one of the many who apply makeup on the go, having clean hands is important before any makeup routine, whether at home or in the driver seat. Baby Wipes: Now unless you're a mommy like me, you might already have these in your car- and your travel bag, and your bathroom, the kitchen... you get the idea. But don't let their name fool you- these are not just for babies, or butts for that matter! Baby wipes are handy when you need a wet wipe for your hands, or a quick body refreshment on those hot days or long car rides. Deodorant: For those times when, well, you might not be your freshest! Quick tip: placing deodorant on the inner thighs and underarms below the arm pits creates a barrier for sweat spots on those hot days when it seems like you whole body is sticking to itself! Eye Makeup Remover Q-tips: These come in handy for those windy days when stepping outside means going to war with gusty winds and flying debris that always finds its way into your eyes, which means smudged eyeliner and runny mascara is sure to follow! A quick touch up with a q tip and makeup remover and you're good to go! Also works great when you get that "raccoon" look at the end of the day when your bottom lash mascara has worked its way off your lashes and onto your bottom eyelid. One can never be too prepared! What would you add to the list? Has there been a product that has come to your beauty distress rescue? I'd love to hear about them!
Just as every other woman in the world, I have struggled to realize what true beauty means and the reality of inner beauty. The world knocks us down with its unreachable and unfathomable standards that we know we can't live up to- yet we stretch and claw our way to reach it, hoping that one day our hands will grasp it and we will truly be happy. But we won't. We can't. And it's okay. Why? Because we all have our own beauty, we just blind ourselves to it. I believe that we are all made in the image of our Creator- God has uniquely chosen us to bear His image, which already make us beautiful in His eyes. Yesterday afternoon I caught a glimpse of the "inner beauty" that He is creating within me- my little baby, jumping around and growing healthy and strong. Seeing that life inside of me made me excited, nervous, but overall humbled- humbled that I was blessed to have another child, another life created in God's image. So when it seems like the pressure is too much or you feel you don't live up to what true beauty is, may this video be a reminder of who the most beautiful One is and where true beauty comes from. Yes, we can still enjoy makeup and get all dolled up-we are free to do so- but we must remember the real beauty that's there when the makeup is not. I hope this video brings encouragement and enlightenment as it did to me.
It's Friday-woohoo! And you know what time it is- it's product spotlight Friday, where every Friday I share a new or favorite product of the week! And this week's winner is... drumroll please... Here in California, our weather has been a bit crazy with tornado like winds and temperatures reaching up and over the 100 mark, so its suffice to say that my hair has been a mess and I've been sweating like a mad woman (hey, life isn't always beautiful, that's why God invented makeup!) And boy has this been my lifesaver! Not only is this one of my holy grail foundations of all time, but it is THE best for hot, sweaty, humid weather. It's staying power is like no other and it doesn't easily break down under heat like most other foundations do. All this protection and it still manages to keep you looking flawless and fresh. I wear shade 842 Medium Beige. It's product description claims it to be an all day, long wearing formula that provides a smooth, flawless finish with the power of a primer, foundation, and concealer in one. I have worn it without a primer and can say it still provides great wearing time, though I do prefer to wear a primer for added longevity. As for its concealer power, it does provide a decent amount of coverage, but I still like to apply concealer under my eyes for extra coverage, so this may be an area of personal preference. I have very dry skin and I don't feel like this foundation dries me out or enhances any dry patches on the face. It dries to a smooth, velvet finish, more matte than dewy, but without the flat, dry look that many matte foundations can leave. I give it two thumbs up!
Throughout the years since makeup was introduced to the mainstream woman, many products have come and gone, been tried and replaced- but there are those precious few that have proven the test of time. I remember when my grandmother would lay out her beauty regimen and skin care routine and I would marvel at how delicate she was with each movement. She passed on that beauty "tradition" to my mother and to my surprise, many of the same products that my grandmother used were the same ones that my mother would swear by. So of course when I was old enough to wear makeup, I wanted to try those very same products because I figured, if it was good enough for my grandmother, it was good enough for me! So here are some tried and true beauty products that remain to be true jewels in the beauty world. Ponds Cold Cream: Whose grandmother didn't use this! This timeless classic goes back to its invention in 1846 and its introduction to the cosmetics industry in 1910. It was hailed as the "vanishing cream"- magically removing signs of fatigue and bringing a glow and youthfulness to the face. It's also used as a way to remove makeup, which is how I remember my mother using it. This was my go to face cream in high school and has reappeared in my skin care routine. Here's an ad that appeared in newspapers in the early twentieth century: Coty Airspun Translucent Face Powder: Introduced in 1935, this powder was manufactured in the attempt to revolutionize the cosmetic industry. Many women complained of a too "gritty" feeling powder and wanted something finely milled that would provide smoothness, good coverage, and softness to the face. Coty set out to do all this and with groundbreaking technology, "airspun" powder was born, the most finely milled powder on the market. It quickly saw success and continues to be a favorite and secret weapon for makeup artists and makeup lovers like us everywhere. I love wearing this on top of full coverage foundation to lock it in place and avoid the dreaded "cake face" that many powders can give you. Here's one of the original ads put out by the company: Maybelline Great Lash Mascara: Who hasn't heard about this mascara?! This green and pink tube is iconic in the makeup world and continues to be a favorite. This was the mascara my mom wore and when I got my first tube, I felt like I had graduated into the big leagues! It's been a long time since then, but I still love it for its great lash separation and dark pigment. The brush is on the small side, so it may not provide big volume if that's what you're going for. It's more of a "natural lash" formula, but works great on the bottom lashes since its brush is small enough to get each individual lash. Here are some magazines ads from the 60's and 70's: The Iconic Red Lipstick: You can't have a list of iconic beauty product without including one of the most iconic of all- the classic red lip. Both my grandmother and mother wore red and wine hued lipstick all the time and it has become a true favorite of mine to wear too! It's such a simple way to feel glam and looks great on all skin tones. It was the look made famous by Hollywood starlets in the 1930's. Here are two of the ladies that I think wore the red lip the best: And in case you haven't seen it, here's the video I made in honor of my mother and her red lips: Sometimes I wish I could have lived during the time when all these makeup inventions, discoveries, and breakthroughs were happening! It's so cool to see how makeup has influenced the times and how many things have stayed the same. What are your favorites that have stayed true to its origins throughout the years? Have you been influenced by women in your family and their beauty secrets? I'd love to know!
I've always been drawn to bright colors, whether it be clothes, accessories, or makeup. I love wearing a neutral eye just like any other girl, but sometimes it's fun to put some POP! in your look with a bright lipstick, eyeshadow, or eyeliner- a little something to liven up the face. With Spring in full effect, it's a great time to play with color and experiment with new looks. For those not used to color or are scared of doing it the wrong way, here are some easy ways to incorporate a pop of color next time you want to spruce up you look! Peekaboo Colored Eyeliner: I love this because it can be as subtle or as bold as you want. Instead of wearing a bright color on the entire lid, keep the eyeshadow neutral, apply a dark application of your favorite liquid or pencil liner, then add the color of your choice right on top of the liner. This can be done with an eye liner, eyeshadow or eyeshadow crayon. For extra lasting wear, layer on the same color eyeshadow on top of the liner to intensify the color and lock it in place. Bright Lipstick or Lipgloss: This is my favorite way to wear a pop of color. If you've visited my site from the beginning, you know my love for lipsticks! Wearing a very natural, neutral eye with minimal eyeliner and lots of mascara is the perfect companion for a bright pop of color on the lips. It's a very easy look that takes no time at all and brings a freshness to the face. Pop of Color on Bottom Eyelid: An alternative to the peekaboo eyeliner is a pop of color on the lower lash line using either eyeshadow or eyeliner. This method will produce a softer look when using eyeshadow, creating a colorful smokey effect. You can pair this with a color coordinating lip color or keep the lip nude to keep the focus on the eyes. So after deciding you want to try wearing color, you might still be wondering what colors are complimentary to each other and to your skin tone. Here's where the famous color wheel comes in: Here's how it works: each color on the wheel corresponds to the color right across from it. For example, purple and yellow are complimentary colors. I've found that the two colors on either side of each color can also be paired with its complimentary color. Pink and dark blue are on either side of purple, so yellow can also be paired with these two colors as well. My favor combos are: Look out for a future color POP! video on my Youtube channel! And you know it's going to involve bright lipstick!! What about you- are you daring enough to try this trend or will you leave the color wearing to the brave ones? Remember -makeup is supposed be fun and creative, give it a try!
We all want to get the most use out of our makeup. Hey, after spending some quality time at the store and our hard earned cash, we want to get our time and money's worth! So here are some products that can be used in more ways than one that can stretch our makeup's lifespan and save us some time getting ready in the morning! 1. Mascara as Eyeliner: Running low on your favorite eyeliner or just can't find the darn thing?! Just grab your mascara wand, a flat or pointed eyeliner brush, and you've got instant eyeliner. Pick up the product using your brush from either the wand or the top of the tube, then apply as usual. If you use waterproof mascara. then you'll get a no smudge, waterproof eyeliner! 2. Shimmery Eyeshadow as Face Highlighter: Shimmery shadows (those without glitter) can give you the same effect a highlighter can on your face. Just as it's used as a highlight for under the brow, you can also place it down the bridge of your nose, forehead, the top of your cheekbones, and anywhere else you want to accentuate on your face. (Brow bone color in trio can be used as a highlighter) 3. Matte Pink Eyeshadow as Blush: Just as with the shimmery shadow, a matte eyeshadow can give you the same pink flush a blush can. It's best to stick with matte shades and then use a highlighter to add shimmer to the face, if not you'll end up looking like a crazy disco ball! 4. Clear Mascara as Brow Gel: If you're the same age as I am, you may remember this oldie but a goodie, the first mascara we were allowed to wear before moving on to the "big girl" black mascara! Clear mascara is great when you just want to perk up your lashes without adding any color; but it's also great as a brow gel to tame your brows. A mascara works to hold your lashes in place, so the same applies when put on top of your eyebrows. I use this everyday after filling in my eyebrows with pencil and brow powder and let me tell you, this stuff works! All day hold without clumps or flaking. 5. Matte Bronzer as Eyeshadow: A matte bronzer is a great alternative for a transition color to put in your crease. Since a bronzer is formulated to bring warmth to the face, using it in your eye crease will give you the appearance of a bigger eye and give you a defined look, but still keeping it natural at the same time. Do you have any products you use for multiple uses? Please share, I'd love to know!!
I'm starting a new series called Product Spotlight Friday, where every Friday I will showcase a product I am currently loving or have just picked up and am testing out to do a review on. For this week, I chose Revlon's Colorstay Whipped Foundation. Not a new product from Revlon, but one I hadn't tried yet. I can get so comfortable with my foundation routine that I neglect trying new foundations, but I sure am glad I tried this one! I picked it up this week at Target during their makeup deal that gives you $5 off any makeup, hair care or skin care purchase of $20 or more (prints from coupons page on Target website or you can access through the mobile app). I doubled my savings by using manufacturer coupons (I get mine from Coupons.com) which saved me almost $5 on each one! The sale ends Saturday so get on it if you can!
The foundation comes in a mousse type formula which melts into the skin. It's description on the Revlon website states that it has "all day flexible wear without flaking, caking or feeling heavy. Buildable to full coverage for flawless skin; soft, matte finish all day, and withstands heat and humidity-great for the summer". I've been testing it out for about a week and I can definitely say that its a winner for me! Feels light on the skin, easy to apply (sponge or brush), and you can definitely get a full coverage application with this foundation- and a little goes a long way! I haven't seen its reaction to heat and humidity since the weather has cooled down a bit, but from what I've seen, it stays in place and doesn't change color throughout the day as some other foundations can. This foundation works well with dry to oily combination skin, drying to a soft matte finish. Those with oily skin will like its non dewy appearance; and if you have skin on the drier side, you may not need to use a finishing powder to keep it in place. I've tried it with and without powder and it works great both ways. Definitely worth picking up when you want extra coverage for those "extra fancy" makeup days!
Have you ever been in a rush and needed a quick fix to a makeup dilemma? Or maybe wanted to know some tips and tricks that you could do yourself to improve your makeup or create something new? Well I got some quick tips and tricks you can do with items you may already have at home. Use a toothbrush to exfoliate your lips: Just as it's great to exfoliate your face, it's a good idea to also give your lips a good scrub to keep them soft and smooth. Just grab an old toothbrush or grab a cheap one from the dollar store, preferably a stiff one) and scrub away! I like to use vaseline or make my own lip scrub out of sugar and olive oil, which helps with moisturizing after scrubbing off all the dead skin on the top layer of the lips. Make your favorite lipstick turn from shiny to matte: I've often found myself loving a lipstick but hating its super shiny finish. I lean toward a matte or satin finish with minimal shine,, which limits me to certain brands at the drugstore. But I learned a useful trick from a makeup artist that can turn any lipstick into a matte finish. Heres what you do:
Make your eyeliner last all day: Do you ever apply your eyeliner and then an hour later its shifted or is now on your bottom eyelid? To fix this, after applying your eyeliner (pencil or gel liner) apply the same color eyeshadow on top of it to lock in the color. Just remember to do this while your eyeliner is freshly applied so the eyeshadow sticks to the pigment. Make your own lipgloss or lip balm: Using some vaseline or clear lipgloss and eyeshadow, you can create your very own custom made lip product! Using a clear lipgloss in a tube, just crush up the eyeshadow you want to use, use the applicator to pick up the eyeshadow and push into the tube, give the gloss a good mix, and you've got instant colored lip gloss! Using vaseline creates more of a lip balm texture and can be stored in small plastic containers such as the one shown in the picture. This is a great tip when you can't find the color you're looking for but have an eyeshadow that is. Plus it's cool to know you've made it yourself! Hope these quick tips and tricks are helpful next time you're in a "makeup jam"! Got any to add to the list?
